Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant held in Kutch
before PM's visit

A week ahead of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's slated visit to earthquake-ravaged Bhuj on June three, security forces apprehended an armed Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant from Kutch district on Sunday night.

Gujarat's Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya said in Gandhinagar on Monday that an AK-47 rifle and 29 live cartridges were recovered from the possession of Mujabir Hussain Abdul Gafoor Gujjar, who was taken into custody from near a religious place along the international border.

Deputy Inspector General (border) of Police A K Singh, officers of intelligence agencies and the Border Security Force were jointly interrogating Gujjar in Bhuj, Pandya told reporters adding Gujjar had confessed that he belonged to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba.

However, Gujjar's two accomplices managed to escape, he said adding that a vigorous combing operation had been launched by security forces to nab them.
