'We don't see much of witty youngsters these days'

What can one look forward to in Ashta Chamma?

We don't see much of witty youngsters these days. In the film, you will see the play of words. It's a fun film. It's a love story but not cliched -- it's an off-the-wall romantic comedy and a laugh riot.

Writing comedy must have been tough...

Yes, it's a huge challenge and tougher than other genres. Comedy springs from the situation -- some of it from our own experiences and idiosyncrasies. So some of it was spontaneous; some of it instinctive. But shooting was fun.

You opted for Kalyani Malik who is coming back after a hiatus to compose music? Why?

I liked his music in the film Aithe and in the television serial Amrutham. I liked his style and ability to emphasise melody and language. His background score is clean. He has solid grounding in composing keeping in mind linguistic boundaries. I wanted funk, rockish sound (steel band music of Caribbean, hip-hop) while retaining the melodic structure.
