What is Vinodayathra about?
It is about a young man Vinod, who runs away from life's responsibilities. He has an MCA degree and can find a job anywhere but prefers to while away his time doing nothing.
Vinod meets Anupama, an engineering student who is forced to discontinue her studies after her father, a police constable, is fatally injured during an agitation. Her small but effective lessons make him change his casual attitude towards life. In fact, we decided on the title Vinodayathra (picnic) as it is Vinod's journey.
Your films often put the audience in a nostalgic mood.
I do these films from the point of view of the audience. I want them to relate to what is being shown on screen. For example, there is the character of a police constable who suffers fatal injuries during a scuffle with a mob. Though we make a big issue about injured agitators during protest marches, we turn a blind eye to the plight of the policemen who also get injured in the process. They too are real people.
