Real love in reel life

February 14, 2007
Valentine's Day in today's India is as important as any other national festival. We witness teenagers shopping for their dates, going out for parties and, of course, jamming cellular networks with hundreds of SMSs going back and forth.

rediff.com caught up with a few television celebrity couples and asked them about their fond Valentine memories.

Tina and Hussain

"We celebrated our first anniversary in last December, so we are excited about Valentine's Day," says Tina, now famous for her dance performance in Nach Baliye. "We had a courtship for more than 10 years before we tied the knot.

The most exciting Valentine's Day we spent together was the first one. Hussain came on a bike to pick me up. But as luck would have it, I was wearing a mini skirt that day!" Tine exclaims.

She realised that it was impossible to ride pillion with such a short skirt. Not one to let go of a good Valentine's Day, they thought of an alternative. "We immediately went to a shop and bought a pair of jeans for me. Once I was aptly dressed, we went for a movie," remembers Tina.

But this was not the end of their adventurous Valentine's Day.

"Unfortunately, Hussain did not know the way to the theatre. When we managed to reach the theatre, we found out they were playing an adult movie!" she laughs.

Hussain was caught on the wrong foot again, but since he did everything unintentionally, Tina didn't mind. "We went for lunch after that to New Yorkers (in South Mumbai). And even here, Hussain did not know it was a vegetarian restaurant! It was really not his day! The chicken-freak that he is, Hussain truly had a tough time," she says.

Having learnt from his mistakes, this time, the couple plans to celebrate over a candlelight dinner at home.
