The many faces of Mahatma Gandhi

An icon of world peace. A man of scrupulous principles. A leader par excellence.

It is but natural that the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi -- better known as Mahatma or Bapu -- has inspired several gifted filmmakers to chronicle it on celluloid.

The relevance of Gandhi as a freedom fighter and a way of life has far from faded. Perhaps his life and teachings have never been as relevant as in the strife-torn world of the new millennium.

And that brings us to Feroz Abbas Khan's Gandhi My Father, which is set for an August 3 release.

The film revolves around the strained relations between the Father of the Nation (played by Darshan Jariwala) and his jilted son, Harilal (Akshaye Khanna).

Adapted from Khan's earlier play Mahatma Vs Gandhi, featuring Boman Irani, this Anil Kapoor production promises to showcase an unusual facet of Gandhi's life.

Which makes it a good time to take a look at some of the other memorable representations of Bapu on screen.
