Made in 1968, it had Padmini and Sivaji Ganesan in the lead roles -- Sivaji playing a nadaswaram player, and Padmini a dancer.
Based on a novel of the same name by Kothamangalam Subbu, it is considered one of the best Tamil films ever made.
