Sekhar Kammula: Women and men are the same

Sekhar Kammula (right) has recreated magic of Anand with Godavari. He has proved that cinema can be clean and entertaining for all ages. Ever since the movie hit theatres, the director has been busy with interviews.

Radhika Rajamani caught up with him at breakfast, and asked him a few questions over a plate of steaming idlis.

Godavari is a clean, wholesome film for all. How did you achieve this?

After Anand, I had a tremendous response from family audiences -- especially the educated middle class. I felt they lacked representation. I also belong to the middle class. After the overwhelming response, I decided not to experiment too much. I wanted to sustain it, yet do something new. I knew that one factor which could sweep away all memory of Anand was the Godavari itself. So, I picked it as a backdrop.
