Right through the 80s, journalists wondered how the Stones kept going. The questions continued through the 90s, with incredulity gradually replaced by awe. Now, we simply refuse to question it. We sit back and enjoy the show instead. Shows devoid of girls in thongs and men in tights. Shows where the stars are always the band members. While Jagger moans, Richards and Wood casually amble across stage, Watts looking disinterestedly at all unfolding before him. And it all clicks.

For musicians, chinks in the armour begin to show soon after 40. After all, rock star lifestyles don't exactly leave one unscathed. The Stones, however, still cavort across stage in reckless abandon, guitars shrieking, Mick screaming, "It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it…"
