The Tatas debuted in Bollywood with Vikram Bhatt's Aetbaar, starring Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu.

The project was helmed by the Cutting Edge division at Tata Infomedia.

The movie bombed and the Tatas suffered a loss of approximately Rs 35 million or Rs 3.5 crore.

The Tatas sold their stake in Tata Infomedia soon after to ICICI Ventures. The new owners (who have renamed the company Infomedia India) shut down Cutting Edge, as they feel it is not feasible to produce films.

"We didn’t see any competitive advantage in the film business," says Prakash Iyer, managing director, Infomedia India limited. "We felt it made better sense to see other business opportunities."
