Naya Daur (1957)

Apparently, Dilip Kumar wasn't even prepared to listen to B R Chopra's narration of Naya Daur's script. Chopra approached Ashok Kumar, who redirected him to Dilip Kumar and even convinced the reluctant star to hear the story. Eventually, he jumped at the role.

After Madhubala's unceremonious ouster from the film -- Dilip Kumar had to stand witness in court after Chopra filed a case against the actress when she refused to shoot at a particular location -- Vyjayanthimala stepped in to play village lass Rajani, who is deeply in love with tonga-puller Shankar (Dilip Kumar).

This rural drama, which warns against the perils of modernisation, offered Kumar ample scope to play the
conventional Hindi film hero, romance his ladylove, lead the villagers against the forces of industrialisation and
play a decisive role in a battle of ideologies.
