'India offers the most skilled workforce'
May 5, 2008
What is the potential of the IT industry in India?
CGI believes India has taken a leadership role in the IT industry and has taken four key steps to achieve success:
A long-term vision to become a leader in the global knowledge economy - they prioritised this
They aligned business, academia, governments and the population around the vision - they worked together;
They made some very strategic long-term investments in education and infrastructure - they focused on quality;
They established a stable, fiscal environment that encouraged foreign investment while prioritizing and targeting the investment to ensure maximum alignment to their long-term vision;
Given India's phenomenal education system and talent pool, the language similarities, and its culture, we feel India's potential in this marketplace is unbounded, given the continuation of its current policies and political environment.
How important is the Indian market for your company? How do you see it growing in the future?
The Indian market is strategically important to CGI and will continue to be a vital source for growth. CGI will continue to move high-end software design and development work to India in support of our global growth. For CGI, India is not simply a labour pool, but a complementary, strategic work force in servicing our clients. Several of our global clients work directly with our managers in India on their projects. Two of our largest centers of excellence are located in India and we plan to continue our growth here. Our centers in Bangalore and Mumbai have seen 40-50 per cent annual growth over the last two years. We expect to more than double our growth in India within the next two years.
What are CGI's new plans in India?
Our current work in India consists of high-end software design and development both for clients and in support of our products. We expect to continue to move project work to India, in addition to systems integration and consulting projects, application maintenance, and business process services.
