The Reebok mat

July 21, 2008
Cost: Around Rs 1,670 (I got it in a sale for Rs 834).

Available: Reebok showrooms around the country.

Star rating: 5

Shred factor: Zilch. This is a tough mat, with no cushiony texture.

Steady or slippery: Rock steady. The top surface of the mat gives a sturdy grip. The bottom surface too does not shift at all, making it a truly firm mat.

Luxury: No fuss, elegant.

Level of practice: Very advanced. All levels.

It is an extremely beautiful mat, with no-fuss lines, a neat logo and a stickiness factor that is the most superior of all the mats profiled here. It has a plastic yoga mat bag with a strip of netting along one side, to encourage the mat to 'breathe' when packed or rolled away.

The mat is thin, which means you will land hard in certain poses but that is not a hassle for any level of practice. As you may be aware, in certain poses once you start sweating, the hand grip can slide (if you are doing a scorpion flow from the headstand for instance), or if you are holding a headstand for long. With this mat there is no such danger since this has the original sticky texture factor that made synthetic yoga mats such a hit among serious practitioners a few decades ago.
