If you're into dance, you've likely noticed that the Indian Salsa scene has tripled in size over the last few years. Trendy nightclubs and restaurants all seem to have their own Salsa societies, and independent dance studios sprout up just about every month. Bangalore alone has between 16-20 dance studios dedicated to Salsa exclusively!
But it's not just the number of dancers that is increasing. According to the country's leading instructors, we're also witnessing a rise in talent and expertise as well. Simply put, Indian Salsa has arrived!
This past weekend in Bangalore, at the third annual Indian International Salsa Congress, India's top young salsa stars showed off their stuff. In the words of one international judge, "They didn't disappoint."
Here, a video of the ESPN World Salsa Championship India Qualifier winners Madan Kumar and Bindhu Prassana. The duo earned near universal admiration from a panel of world class judges, and will go on to represent India at the World Championships in Orlando, Florida, USA, this December.
