Riding the toy train to Ooty

When you reach Hill Grove station, which is approximately the middle point of the journey and acts like a refreshment centre, you would be all cramped and craving to stretch. Get off and stretch. You would also like to buy some snacks from the counter. Buy them. Then turn back to notice scores of monkeys had descended from nowhere and surrounded the train. Don't spend even a moment wondering where they came from. Quickly, but without calling much attention, get on the train. Feel good about yourself if you manage to do this without losing your snack.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

Try and take a train to and from Mettuppalayam, which is well-connected from Coimbatore. The roads are narrow and the buses are crowded all the time. A cab ride from Coimbatore to Ooty costs Rs 450 and the ride back will be anywhere between 600-800 depending on your bargaining power since there is no cab service there and you will be at the mercy of individual operators.
