Udarakarshanasana (Abdominal twist pose)


Sit on your toes, in a kneeling position. Inhale. Press down left knee to the ground. Exhale, passing left hand over left knee, holding it down.

Inhale, passing your right hand over right knee and push it firmly to the left. Inhale.

Exhaling, look over right shoulder. Inhale, relax back to starting position. Repeat thrice. Rest and repeat entire sequence for the other side.

Benefits: The powerful transverse squeeze restricts and then causes a fresh gush of blood to the entire digestive tract. The liver, involved with over 500 functions, is massaged and rejuvenated. It offers relief from constipation and aids weight loss. The spine is given a thorough workout. The upper part of the neck, where emotional tension is lodged, is also gently massaged. This pose prepares you for more advanced practices.
