Career prospects

Growth prospects: "We offer careers in sales, delivery (of business-specific IT solutions), practices (insurance, SAP, manufacturing practice, etc), technology, corporate roles and specialisations in engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure, BPO and IT services and global consulting.

"We offer prospective employees an aspiration-driven career across project management, technology, domain and sales streams. This is enabled by ongoing competency development (employees are constantly required to upgrade their skills), differentiated compensation (salaries that are structured on the basis of an employee's competency) and various work-life balance initiatives, as well as the opportunity to work in different markets and geographies in our network of 175 offices in over 50 countries. This is what has helped TCS to attract and retain employees at all levels," says Padmanabhan.

Postings: "TCS is a global company and has about 175 offices in over 50 countries with operations across India, North America, APAC, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa," says Padmanabhan.

"We offer a well-designed career path which offers our associates wide experience in cutting edge technologies across geographies," he continues. "Associates get the opportunity to work in a dynamic work environment that facilitates learning and development and aligns individual goals with organisational goals."

Remuneration: "We offer remuneration based on the number of years of experience and nature of experience in terms of skills, technology etc. Our compensation is benchmarked regularly with the industry. The reward component is called 'variable pay', based on the EVA model."

The Economic Value Added model is a competitive salary structure, which determines compensation based on value delivered to the employer. EVA allows your compensation to grow as fast as the results you produce. It is a basis for measuring performance and bonus.

Add-ons: "Some of our add-ons, in addition to remuneration, include canteen facilities where subsidised meals are provided, health insurance for yourself and your family at subsidised rates, and subsidised transport at some of our locations. Gymnasiums, tennis courts, table tennis, carrom and basketball are some of the other facilities that encourage worklife balance and allow employees to de-stress," says Padmanabhan.

TCS also has other add-ons, such as taking sabbaticals for pursuing higher studies; joining a spouse overseas; options to work part-time/ work from home; holiday homes across the country; welfare trust to facilitate higher education; and membership of the Tata Sons Welfare Trust and Consultancy Employees Welfare Trust, among others.

"Also, as employees of the Tata group, our associates get discounts on products and services of other Tata group companies, such as Westside, Titan, Tata Motors and the Taj Group of Hotels," adds Padmanabhan.
