Narendra Modi to be sworn in at Ahmedabad

December 18, 2002 03:12 IST

Narendra Modi will be sworn in as chief minister on December 22 at Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad.

The decision to hold the ceremony at Ahmedabad was taken in view of Modi's invitation to the people of his constituency -- Maninagar -- to attend the swearing-in, party sources said.

Preparations for the ceremony were being taken up on a war footing as the venue has, they said.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, BJP president Venkaiah Naidu and other senior leaders are likely to attend the swearing in ceremony.

Modi was elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Monday.
