Mahela Jayawardene, seen above walking back to pavilion after being bowled out by South Aftrica's Andre Nel for 374 during the first Test in Colombo in July 2006, also happened to score 240 runs in the just-concluded Karachi Test -- where Younis scored 313.
However, his triple ton at the Sinhalese Sports Club was more significant considering it helped Sri Lanka thrash South Africa by an innings and 153 runs.
Playing in New Zealand will be tough: Sachin Tendulkar
Jayawardene's 374 happens to be the fourth highest individual score in Test matches and the most runs made by a right-hander.
He also surpassed the highest score by a Sri Lankan in a Test match, previously Sanath Jayasuriya's 340 in 1997 against India, during the course of his innings.
However, it is a shame that he also remains the only batsman to pass 350 in a Test without going on to break the world record.
