Mark Taylor, seen here with former Australian Prime Minister John Howard with a framed newspaper proclaiming his record-equalling Test score of 334 runs against Pakistan at a "welcome home lunch" in Sydney, presents another twist to the story.
Taylor matched Sir Donald Bradman's highest score of 334 in Test cricket, set in 1930, during Australia's drawn second Test against Pakistan in Peshawar's Arbab Niaz Stadium in October, 1998 .

During the course of the innings Taylor passed 311, eclipsing Bob Simpson's record score by an Australian captain.
However, Taylor didn't go for Brian Lara's existing world record (375), preferring instead to declare the innings closed, opting to share the record with Sir Don Bradman, and making the team's chances of winning the game paramount.
His respect for the legend earned him a lot of acclaim.
