Hyderabad, with its graceful mosques, ornate palaces, brisk bazaars and grand forts has a certain understated elegance to it.. A strong whiff of decay assails a newcomer to the old city too. But this decay, evident in the declining buildings and eroding houses, adds to the charm of Hyderabad, a city that once was the majestic capital of the Golconda empire. There is still a ghostly atmosphere of pomp and circumstance hanging about the place.
Make sure you get yourself an itinerary before you start. If you don't have the time to do a full round of Hyderabad's monuments, don't forget to at least visit the Salar Jung Museum.
