Vishnu Vardhan goes down to Kavcic

July 30, 2012 20:26 IST

Vishnu Vardhan could not make the most of the lucky opportunity he got to compete in the men's singles tennis competition at the London Olympics and went down to world No 77 Blaz Kavcic on Monday.

The 304-ranked Indian lad lost 3-6, 2-6 in 72 minutes at the Wimbledon grass courts.

It was the third meeting between the two players and Kavcic extended his lead to 3-0.

The scoreline may suggest a comfortable victory for the Slovakian but Vardhan did trouble him and made him work for his points.

With this defeat, the Indian challenge in the men's singles ended as Somdev Devvarman had already bowed out after losing to Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.

Vardhan made it to the men's singles draw after Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew due to a right hamstring injury.

He is slated to play in the men's doubles with Leander Paes later in the day.
