Teams

Portugal

Luis FigoPortugal are attempting to become the first host nation since France in 1984 to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy.

Standing in their way from June 12 are, among others, defending champions France, neighbours Spain, Germany, England, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Italy, who came so close to being crowned champions four years ago before losing to France on a golden goal in the final in Rotterdam.

Portugal are contenders to get to the last four again -- the last time that the survivors of the so-called Golden Generation will have such a good chance of glory.

Luis Figo, Rui Costa and Fernando Couto are the last three survivors from the team that lifted the World Youth Cups in 1989 and 1991.

Under coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who led Brazil to a fifth World Cup in Japan and South Korea two years ago, Portugal are hoping their time has finally come.
