Delhi high court cancels Uphaar's licence

The Delhi high court on Wednesday cancelled the licence of ''Uphaar'' cinema hall in South Delhi.

Issuing the order, Justice Arun Kumar said that a high-level official panel should ascertain if buildings were complying with maintenance and fire-fighting norms.

The court revoked the licence after the theatre owner's counsel Kumkum Sen sought an adjournment in the case. She said that she had not received any instructions from the Ansals.

Ansals are among the seven cinema hall-owners who had approached the high court against the lieutenant governor's order of 1983, revoking the licences of 11 theatres for non-compliance with safety and fire-fighting norms. The cinema owners later acquired a stay on the order and were operating on the stay to date.
