Militants kill daughter of CPI-M leader

Underground tribal guerrillas shot at the family of a Communist Party of India-Marxist leader, killing his eight-year-old daughter. The leader, his wife and son were injured.

Police said the militants raided the house of CPI-M leader Arun Debbarma at Lembuchara and fired indiscriminately, killing his daughter on the spot. Debbarma, his wife and son were injured and admitted to hospital. Security forces have launched a combing operation.

Meanwhile a fierce encounter took place at Teliamura between militants and Central Reserve Police Force personnel. No one was hurt.

Soldiers at the Ampi post at Dulangbari recovered five country-made guns, a hand grenade and a rifle magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition.
