Sangma admits BJP motion for Bhandari's recall

Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma on Friday admitted a motion by the Bharatiya Janata Party demanding the immediate recall of Uttar Pradesh Governor Romesh Bhandari.

The motion -- admitted under rule 189 -- was tabled by BJP stalwarts Jaswant Singh, Atal Behari Vajpayee, Promod Mahajan and Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, and is likely to come up for discussion next week. Under 189, the date and time of the debate is fixed at the speaker's discretion.

On Thursday, the speaker had, under rule 184, pulled up the United Front government led by H D Deve Gowda for the open dissension between Gupta and Bhandari on the law and order situation in the state.
