Bharatiya Janata Party Gujarat unit President Vajubhai Vala on Monday resigned as the state finance minister, party sources said.

His resignation comes in the wake of a likely state cabinet expansion and seems to be in accordance with the 'one man, one post' policy.

Vala submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images], the sources said.

Vala, known to be close to Modi, had succeeded Rajendrasinh Rana as party president on May 13 and had been holding both the posts since then.
