TN Dalit leader Krishnaswamy injured in bomb attack

July 27, 2004 13:06 IST

Puthiya Thamizhagam leader Dr S Krishnaswamy, the party's organising secretary Velu Samy and his driver suffered injuries in a bomb attack by an 11-member gang near the Sathakthullah College in Thirunelveli city late on Monday afternoon.

The police said the PT leader and two others were returning to Thirunelveli after attending a hearing in a case relating to the murder of Anthony Samy, an official of the Manjolai tea estate some years back, in the fast track court at Ambasamuthiram.

All the three have been admitted to the Palayamkottai Hospital where the condition of the driver was stated to be serious. Krishnaswamy and Velu Samy, however, escaped with splinter injuries.

The police said nine of the gang members were arrested immediately after the attacks. As a precautionary measure, buses to rural areas in Thirunelveli district were cancelled following the incident.
