Attack on Chandrababu Naidu: Suspects shot dead

Two naxals, allegedly involved in the attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu near Tirupati on October 1, 2003, were shot dead in Chittoor district in the wee hours of Sunday.

Satyam alias Yerra Satyam and Sivanand, who were arrested in Bangalore, were being brought to Tirupati in a police vehicle when the incident occurred.

Policemen escorting the two allowed them to answer nature's call near Heritage Dairy at Peleru. While getting down from the vehicle, the naxals snatched a weapon from one of the policemen, opened fire and tried to flee.

The escort party fired at them, police said adding Satyam died on the spot while Sivanand succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital in Peleru.
