Court stays proceedings against Vijayawada top cop

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad | May 28, 2003 11:07 IST

The Andhra Pradesh high court has stayed criminal proceedings against Vijayawada Police Commissioner N V Surendra Babu and Assistant Commissioner of Police D Rami Reddy in connection with the custodial death of an accused.

The case is pending before the court of the third metropolitan magistrate, Vijayawada.

The high court passed the orders after criminal revision petitions were filed by the two police officers. The petitions questioned the magistrate's order slapping the offence of murder on them for the custodial death.

The magistrate had issued non-bailable warrants against the two officials and other police personnel in connection with the case.
