Congress sends wheat to Rajasthan

Shahid K Abbas in New Delhi | May 28, 2003 05:35 IST

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday flagged off 100 truckloads of wheat to drought-hit areas of Rajasthan, where her party is in power.

The Youth Congress had undertaken the exercise, considered part of Gandhi's strategy ahead of the polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi later this year.

Gandhi has already blamed the Centre of adopting an indifferent attitude towards the Congress-ruled states.

"Seva and sadbhav as preached and practiced by the Congress reflects the core of our tradition and history and this must be inculcated by the younger generation," she said.

A second instalment of 50 trucks is likely to be despatched on Wednesday.
