top officials in Gaya district

March 19, 2003 13:19 IST

Four policemen were injured when Naxalites of the banned Peoples War group attacked a police picket and then two top officials of Gaya district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Three policemen were injured when the Naxalites attacked Lodhipur police picket under the Konch police station, Superintendent of Police Ravindran Shankaran told PTI.

They decamped with 15 rifles and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

When District Magistrate Brajesh Malhotra and Deputy Superintendent of Police Tekari Niranjan Prasad rushed to the spot on getting information about the attack in Lodhipur, the Naxalites ambushed their motorcade.

They hurled bombs at the motorcade, but Malhotra and Prasad survived. A policeman was injured in the crossfire.

Zonal Inspector General A C Verma and other senior officials rushed to the spot and directed combing operations to recover the firearms and apprehend the culprits, Shankaran said.
