PM to make statement on
Iraq on Wednesday

March 11, 2003 19:37 IST

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will make a statement in Parliament on Wednesday on the situation in Iraq, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Tuesday.

Vajpayee will first make the statement in the Lok Sabha at noon and later in the Rajya Sabha at 1245 hours, Swaraj said.

The prime minister's decision to take both the Houses into confidence follows a demand by the opposition that the government should make its stand clear on Iraq crisis.

The issue figured in the Lok Sabha for the second day on Tuesday and Swaraj told the agitated position members that she had already conveyed the members' feelings to Vajpayee.

Communist Party of India member Prabodh Panda, who had given a notice of adjournment motion on the Iraq crisis, said in the House that the government's stand on the crisis is 'confusing' and is contrary to the Non-Aligned policy.
