Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad | June 05, 2003 20:15 IST

Two persons were killed and 10 injured on Thursday afternoon when two coaches of a passenger train derailed in Adilabad district in Andhra Pradesh.

South Central Railways Chief Operations Manager Ashok Gupta told rediff.com that the mishap occurred soon after the Adilabad-Mudkhed passenger train left Kosai Railway Station near Adilabad town.

A tipper (truck) hit the train about 4km from Kosai station causing two coaches next to the engine to derail.

Two persons died on the spot. One of them was a passenger in the train while the identity of the other could not be established.

The injured were shifted to the government hospital in Adilabad.

On receipt of information, several railway officials rushed to the site to oversee relief operations.
