Former IPS official held for eve-teasing

January 14, 2003 15:56 IST

A former inspector general of police from Karnataka, K Suryanarayan, was arrested in New Delhi on Monday on charges of eve-teasing.

Suryanarayan, 63, a retired Indian Police Service official, was nabbed near the Lady Shriram College in south Delhi, police said.

The police said he was trapped after he offered a lift to a girl standing outside the college. The girl, who was a cop in plain clothes, got the car stopped at the next check post and he was arrested.

Suryanarayan claimed that he was trying to verify the authenticity of the anti-eve-teasing drive of the police.

The police said he made objectionable gestures towards the cop after giving her the lift.
