Asthana appointed chief of Strategic Forces Command

The government on Friday appointed Air Marshal Teja Mohan Asthana as the first commander-in-chief of the Strategic Forces Command.

With over 3,000 hours of combat flying to his credit, Air Marshal Asthana will take over the post on Sunday, an official announcement said.

He will report to the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Command, navy chief Admiral Madhvendra Singh.

The Strategic Forces Command will be temporarily based in New Delhi till a suitable location is found.

The post of commander-in-chief of the Strategic Forces Command will rotate between the three services -- the army, air force and navy.
