Close Pak high commission: BJP

February 09, 2003 01:59 IST

Adopting a tough stance, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday demanded that the Pakistan high commission be closed immediately in the wake of its involvement in funding separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP Parliamentary party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said, "There is no need of a Pakistan mission being here as it has also become a centre of Inter-Services Intelligence activities in India."

He said Pakistan is still encouraging terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and the economic assistance given by United States is being used to finance terrorist activities in India.

Malhotra said instead of targeting Iraq, the US should ensure that Pakistan stops cross-border terrorism and called upon America to declare Pakistan a terrorist state.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said India does not propose to shut down the high commission.

"There is no such thing," he said when asked if New Delhi was considering any such proposal in the wake of the expulsion of Gilani and four staffers.
