Insat-3A launch rescheduled for Thursday

Fakir Chand in Bangalore | April 09, 2003 21:30 IST

The Indian Space Research Organisation has rescheduled the launch of Insat-3A satellite from Kourou in French Guyana to Thursday, April 10.

The launch was planned for Wednesday and the countdown had started. But ISRO scientists, stationed at the launch site, observed during the final checks on Tuesday that the signal strength from one of the two telemetry transmitters was less than nominal.

"This anomaly could not be resolved before the close of launch window and hence the launch was called off for the day around midnight of Tuesday-Wednesday," an ISRO official in Bangalore told rediff.com

He said, "Now the European launcher Ariane 5, carrying the satellite, will takeoff between 04:19am and 5:00am [India Standard Time] on Thursday.

"The countdown for the launch has begun all over again."

Doordarshan will telecast the launch on its national network.

Ariane 5 is also programmed to take off with another satellite, Galaxy XII of Panamsat.

The 2.95tonne Indian satellite carries 24 transponders -- 12 in C band, 6 in Ku band and the rest in the upper extended C band.

ISRO's Master Control Facility at Hassan in Karnataka, 160km from Bangalore, will take control of the satellite after it is launched into a transfer orbit.
