Five detained in Haren Pandya case

April 09, 2003 03:18 IST

Five persons have been detained in connection with the killing of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya in Ahmedabad last month.

After examining them, the Gujarat police and the Central Bureau of Investigation will decide whether to take them into custody, sources said.

"We have not got any confession from any of the suspected persons. We are trying to ascertain whether the five youths have any link with the assassination," officials said on Tuesday night.

Mohammed Pervez Abdul Kayum Sheikh, Mohammed Yunus Abdul Rahim Sareshwala, Mohammed Riyaz alias Goru Abdulwahid Sareshwala, Rehan Abdulmujib Punthawala and Munawar Beigh alias Captain Yakubmiyan Mirza, are all in their late twenties and reportedly adept at handling sophisticated explosives.
