5 suspected ISI agents held in Ahmedabad

Vikram Vakil in Surat | April 04, 2003 17:35 IST

Five suspected agents of the Pakistani Inter Service Intelligence were arrested in Ahmedabad on Friday. A .32 bore pistol and 30 cartridges were recovered from them.

Pervez, Yunus, Riyaz, Rihan and Munawar, all Ahmedabad residents, had allegedly gone to Pakistan in December and received training in the use of arms and ammunition.

Joint Commissioner of Police P P Pandey said the men first went to Calcutta and then to Bangladesh, from where they were transported to Pakistan. There they were trained for three months so that they could cause disturbances all over Gujarat on their return.

All the accused are about 30 years old and residents of Juhapura and Kalupur areas of Ahmedabad, which witnessed some of the worst carnages in the March-April 2002 riots in Gujarat.
