Anees deported to Pakistan: Report

Onkar Singh in New Delhi | December 14, 2002 13:24 IST

The Gulf-based Khaleej Times on Saturday reported that underworld don Anees Ibrahim was deported to Pakistan after being released on bail by UAE authorities on Friday.

Some newspapers and television channels in India too have carried reports to this effect.

Anees is one of the main suspects in the Mumbai serial bomb blasts case. He had been arrested by UAE authorities on his arrival from Pakistan on December three in connection with the murder of an Indian businessman in Dubai.

Sensing an opportunity, the CBI had sent its officials to the UAE to secure his extradition to India.

The agency has not got any official intimation from UAE authorities regarding Anees' deportation, if indeed it has taken place, CBI spokesperson G Mohanty told rediff.com.
