Mamta asks Advani to resign

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Bharatiya Janata Party's ally, the Trinamul Congress, today demanded the immediate resignation of Union Home Minister L K Advani for his ''failure'' to protect the minorities in the country.

Talking to reporters at her residence in Calcutta, Banerjee said if Advani did not resign, the Trinamul Congress might withdraw its support to the BJP-led government at the Centre.

The firebrand leader said it was the foremost duty of any government to protect the life of citizens, particularly the minorities. The culprits must be brought to book.

Delving into the causes of assaults on members of the minority communities in different parts of the country, Banerjee said, ''Advani as home minister has failed to provide the basic securities to the citizens.''
