Madhur Bhandarkar faces trial in rape case

September 20, 2011 14:48 IST

Madhur BhandarkarMadhur Bhandarkar had barely overcome the setback that his ambitious project Heroine suffered and now the seven-year-old rape charges have come back to haunt the national award-winning filmmaker.

An Andheri court has now issued summons to the director for October 18.

The court on Monday ruled against Bhandarkar in the Preeti Jain rape case, adding charges for threatening too. The Fashion director, in

response, is going to challenge the decision in a Sessions court.

He posted a statement on his official web page, narrating his side of the story saying that Preeti Jain, a struggling actress, has threatened other people related to films before him. He wrote:
'As the lower court has issued a process against me today, 19th September, 2011, for a case which has been going on for 7 years, I would like to state here after reading the judgment that we will challenge this order in higher courts and seek justice.'

The court observed that before lodging the FIR, Jain had sent a legal notice to Bhandarkar in July 2004. The filmmaker however, chose not to reply, thus showing that he did not refute the allegations at the first available opportunity.
