"What attracted me to the tale was mainly its relevance even during the present times though the happenings mentioned in the story happened several decades back.

"The focus is mainly on the life of Karthi, a young lady who belongs to the prestigious Melepullara Tharavadu. Sanku Menon, the patriarch of the household, sensed some bad omens after her birth especially in her horoscope but he never really revealed his anxieties to others. She grew up into a beautiful woman and shared a peculiar kind of relationship with Sanku mama," says Priyanandanan.

He continues, "Karthi was attracted towards the ample charms of Maamutty, a Muslim who had come to the tharavadu to meet Sanku mama. She embraced Islam and became his beevi. But it was never easy for her to renounce the faith that she grew up with. That led to some unforeseen happenings in their lives and in the destiny of the family as well."
