The man behind Mammootty's Mayavi

For director Shafi, churning out hits by now has become almost a habit. His latest offering, Mayavi with Mammootty in the title role has set the cash registers ringing in a big way.

Instead of resting on his laurels, however the man is already busy with his new venture, which have youngsters Prithviraj and Jayasurya in the lead.

The director of such films as One Man Show, Kalyana Raman, Pulival Kalyanam, Thommanum Makkalum and Maja finds narrating serious subjects in a lighter vein effective. This is one of the reasons why Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful is one of his favourite films.

In an exclusive interview, Meghna V got the director talking about his films, career and dreams.

You should be thrilled by the fabulous response to Mayavi?

Absolutely. The film was well received by the audience.
