'We cannot afford to ignore China'

August 31, 2007
How big is China as India's BPO competitor?

China deginitely poses a serious challenge as far as BPO business in India goes. It has the scale and the size and the BPO cost factor is 10 to 15 per cent higher than India.

With Indian economy putting more and more demand on the workforce and the latter getting scarce, China will come up as the next best BPO option. Which is why we have already planted our flag in that country. Infosys has a presence in China and so we understand the Chinese market very well. China is definitely going to play a significant role in the global BPO scene in years to come.

This issue has raised its head, thanks to the Democrats. As a direct effect, outsourcing has faced a minor slowdown, delays in some cases. But such an effect is only short-term. For the economic prospect of outsourcing and its demand is so huge, that even the world's biggest economy just cannot afford to ignore it.
