April passenger car sales up 28%

Domestic passenger car sales jumped 28 per cent in April to 42,506 units from 33,195 units in the same month last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Wednesday.

SIAM said in a statement that sales of commercial vehicles, or trucks and buses combined, were 11,844 units in April, up from 11,397 a year ago.

Motorycle sales in April, the first month of this financial year, jumped 6.1 per cent to 303,792 units from 286,313 units a year ago.

In the past year to March, Indian domestic car sales rose 6.4 per cent, commercial vehicles jumped 30.4 per cent while sales of motorcycle sales in the world's second-biggest market soared 28.4 per cent.
