Court summons for Ambanis likely

A designated Delhi court has directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to issue summons to Reliance group chairman Mukesh Ambani and its managing director Anil Ambani for allegedly procuring classified government documents in violation of Official Secrets Act.
Special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) Judge P K Bhasin directed the CMM to issue summons to the Ambani brothers, for being "statutorily deemed to be guilty" of the offence alleged to have been committed by officials of the company. At that time the Ambani brothers were the managing directors of RIL.
CBI had claimed to have recovered photocopies of four classified secret documents of different ministries of the government from Reliance's office at Le Meriden Commercial towers in New Delhi during a raid conducted on October 28, 1998 in connection with a case registered against gangster Romesh Sharma and others for the offences of extortion and abduction.
CBI had named V Balasubramaniam (president of Reliance), A N Sethuraman (vice president) and Shankar Adawal (general manager, Reliance Telecom) as accused in the case and the court had issued summons to them.
CBI has alleged that the documents recovered from the official premises of the company were beneficial for promoting the interest of the company.
