TATA Indicom services in 25 centres

TATA Tele services Limited, a leading telecom service provider, said on Wednesday that it would launch its services in over 25 centres in Tamil Nadu soon and cover the entire state well in advance of the period stipulated as part of the license condition.

Before the launch of TTSL's basic telephone service TATA Indicom in Madurai, TTSL managing director S Ramakrishnan told the reporters that the company was ahead of schedule through launching its service in five major cities in the state with Madurai being the sixth destination.

The TTSL had tied up with n-Logue systems to provide its services in Bhavani, Vaniyambadi,Gudiyatham,Mayavaram, he said.

He said as the state government had permitted laying of Optical fibre cable and the TTSL would be backed by a strong network of 2400 km of OFC after the laying work was completed.

TTSL with 38000 subscribers in Tamil Nadu, had setup 1300 PCOs and would expand them in a phased manner.

Asked why TTSL, under the TATA Indicom brand, had introduced CDMA mobile phones, he said the CDMA 3G1X technology was the latest and was being used in Korea,China and the US.

In the second phase, TTSL would go to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan. TTSL would also offer augmented telecom services for Internet and data traffic.

TTSL also hopes to generate 12000 to 15000 jobs directly and indirectly in the next five to seven years.
