February 12, 2003 20:18 IST

The World Bank would outsource over $10 million IT work to India in the next 12 months through its existing Indian partners, Nasscom said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The bank, in IT partnerships with Satyam Computers, HCL Technologies and MegaSoft among others, would outsource the work through its Chennai centre, a Nasscom release said, quoting World Bank chief executive officer and chief information officer Mohamed V Muhsin.

World Bank, which had already outsourced work worth $10 million during the past couple of years, is also planning to increase IT outsourcing to its existing partners, the release added.

The bank is also planning to expand its Chennai business process outsourcing centre by adding another 100 people, the release added.

At present, World Bank's Chennai BPO centre employs over 100 people in accounting, procurement and loan disbursement sections.
