Be a commercial pilot for Rs 10 lakh

BS Corporate Bureau in Mumbai

Youngsters looking at becoming commercial pilots in less than a year now need not fly to Texas, Florida or the UK. Bombay Flying Club offers a unique training programme to become commercial pilots for Rs 10 lakh (Rs 1 million) in less than 10 months.

Rasheid Taleyarkhan, secretary of The Bombay Flying Club said, "The most unique feature of the programme is that it can be completed in 10 months, unlike any other flying schools in India. A similar training offered by a British flying institute costs around Rs 30-35 lakh (Rs 3-3.5 million)."

The trainees will be recognised as BSc degree holders from the university specialising in aviation, which includes a commercial pilot license.

The qualification required for the course is HSC with physics and mathematics.

A British license is considered to be the most reputed worldwide. According to Talyerkhan, the Indian licence is second to a British licence and is preferred to an American one.

"Most of the pilots who have acquired their license at the Bombay Flying Club are now in top positions with Air-India, Singapore Airlines, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways to name a few," Talyerkhan added.

The flying institute also offers a 4-month training for Rs 2 lakh (Rs 200,000) for those who want to take up flying as a hobby.

It has now tied up with the institute of aviation and aviation safety which was constituted under the aegis of Federation of India Pilots.

The institute, located at Juhu in Mumbai, has been granted an affiliation to the University of Mumbai in June after due permission from the government of Maharashtra.
